Kame Ogito, 89, gathers asa seaweed at low tide on the public boat ramp in the town of Motobu. Kame will wash and dry the seaweed and ship it to her son who lives in Osaka. "50 years ago this harbor was filled with American ships and airplanes (during WWII), now it is very peaceful" says Kame who lived through the war. Seaweed is part of the plant based low calorie diet that help make Okinawans the longest lived group of people in the world.
